Affected Areas and Impact — Basic Structure

Basic Structure

Use three separate maps: administrative classification, recorded violence and programme support. They may overlap, but they are produced for different purposes. Adding their totals without checking the categories can misstate the geographical extent of LWE.

An MHA reply dated 3 February 2026 reported eight affected districts as of December 2025, down from 126 in 2018. Six were in Chhattisgarh—Bijapur, Dantewada, Gariyaband, Kanker, Narayanpur and Sukma—one in Jharkhand, West Singhbhum, and one in Odisha, Kandhamal. This is a dated classification, not a claim that the same list describes October 2026.

The reply separately identified 30 Legacy and Thrust districts. Continued assistance can consolidate gains after violence declines. The category should not simply be added to the eight and labelled a current affected total.

Impact has direct and indirect dimensions. Deaths and injuries are direct harms; interrupted schooling, insecure travel and weakened markets may continue beyond a decline in incidents. Infrastructure outputs need to be connected to actual access and services.

On 15 October 2026, the Home Minister stated that Naxalism had been eliminated and emphasised rehabilitation in Bastar. Attribute that assessment. The accompanying focus on victims and public services illustrates why recovery remains a task even after a government reports a major security achievement.
