Strengthened the legal framework against sexual violence, making it more comprehensive and stringent. It introduced concepts like 'consent' more clearly and mandated faster trials. While a significant step, challenges in police investigation, victim support, and judicial backlog continue to impact its full effectiveness in ensuring justice for survivors.
Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Act	2021	This amendment to the MTP Act, 1971, increased the upper gestational limit for abortion from 20 to 24 weeks for special categories of women (e.g., survivors of sexual assault, minors, women with disabilities). It also removed the upper limit in cases of substantial fetal abnormalities.	Expanded access to safe and legal abortion services, particularly for vulnerable women, and enhanced women's reproductive autonomy. It brought India's abortion laws closer to international best practices, recognizing the importance of bodily integrity and health rights. However, access to qualified medical professionals, especially in rural areas, remains a challenge.
