Multidimensional Poverty Index — Revision Notes
Updated 19 Oct 2026
⚡ 30-Second Revision
- Checked 18 October 2026.
- National MPI: 3 dimensions, 12 indicators; equal dimension weights, unequal indicator weights; cutoff ≥1/3.
- MPI = H × A.
- NITI 2023: 24.85% to 14.96%, a 9.89-point decline across the stated NFHS periods.
2-Minute Revision
Sum deprivation weights before applying the cutoff. H is the population share poor; A is average weighted deprivation among the poor. Multiply proportions. Keep the components and indicator pattern visible, and distinguish direct survey comparisons from estimated periods in the 2024 paper.
5-Minute Revision
Compare two education deprivations with two living-standard deprivations using their weights. Compute MPI for H=0.20 and A=0.50. Find another H/A combination giving 0.10 and explain why the situations differ. Calculate the percentage-point decline from 24.85 to 14.96.
Vyyuha Quick Recall
W-H-A: Weights identify poverty; Headcount gives incidence; Average deprivation among the poor gives intensity.
