Intersectionality in Social Justice — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
For Prelims, focus on memorizing key legal provisions that recognize intersectional discrimination: Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 (multiple discrimination clause), Transgender Persons Act 2019, and relevant Supreme Court judgments like NALSA (2014).
Create a mental map connecting intersectionality to various constitutional articles (14, 15, 16, 21) and understand how they apply to compound discrimination cases. Practice identifying intersectional elements in current affairs - when reading about social issues, always ask how different identities (caste, gender, religion, disability, class) might interact.
Common traps include confusing intersectionality with simple 'multiple discrimination' or coalition politics. Use elimination techniques by understanding that intersectionality is specifically about overlapping identities creating unique experiences, not just cooperation between movements or additive discrimination.
Pay attention to recent policy developments and Supreme Court observations that use intersectional language, as these are likely to appear in current affairs-based questions.
