Prelims Strategy

To ace NEET questions on the Digestive System, a multi-pronged strategy is essential. Firstly, master the anatomy of the alimentary canal and associated glands. Be able to trace the path of food and identify each organ's structural features.

Secondly, memorize the enzymes: know their names, the specific substrate they act upon, the product they form, and their optimal pH and site of action. Create tables or flowcharts for this. For example, 'Salivary amylase: Starch -> Maltose; pH 6.

8; Mouth'. Thirdly, understand the regulatory mechanisms, both neural and hormonal. Know the source, target, and effect of hormones like gastrin, secretin, and CCK. Fourthly, focus on absorption: differentiate the absorption pathways for carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.

Pay special attention to the role of villi, microvilli, lacteals, and blood capillaries. For conceptual questions, read all options carefully, as distractors are often plausible but subtly incorrect. For 'INCORRECT' statement questions, verify each option individually.

Practice matching type questions extensively, as they are common and test broad knowledge. Finally, review common digestive disorders and their basic causes/symptoms.
