Prelims Strategy

To ace questions on 'Types of Solutions' in NEET, a systematic approach is key. Firstly, thoroughly memorize the nine types of solutions based on the physical states of solute and solvent, along with at least two common examples for each.

Pay special attention to less intuitive examples like gas in solid (hydrogen in palladium) or liquid in solid (amalgams). For concentration-based classifications (dilute, concentrated, unsaturated, saturated, supersaturated), focus on their precise definitions and the concept of dynamic equilibrium in saturated solutions.

Practice identifying the type of solution from a given description or example. For conceptual questions, carefully read each statement and evaluate it against the exact definitions. Trap options often involve misinterpreting the physical state of a common substance or confusing the properties of different concentration types.

For instance, a common trap is to confuse an unsaturated solution with a supersaturated one, or to misunderstand the dynamic nature of equilibrium in a saturated solution. Always break down the problem: identify the solute, identify the solvent, determine their physical states, and then apply the relevant classification rules.

If the question involves concentration, consider the temperature and the maximum solubility limit.
