g., sucrose: -D-glucose + -D-fructose, -1,2-glycosidic bond). Crucially, understand the concept of reducing vs. non-reducing sugars; this is a frequent trap. Remember that a free hemiacetal/hemiketal group confers reducing properties.
For reactions, focus on the specific reagents and their effects: bromine water (mild oxidation of aldehyde), nitric acid (strong oxidation of aldehyde and primary alcohol), and reduction agents (conversion of carbonyl to alcohol).
Finally, know the biological significance of key polysaccharides like starch, cellulose, and glycogen. When solving MCQs, read the question carefully, identify keywords, and eliminate incorrect options systematically.
For structural questions, visualize the molecules or quickly sketch them if needed. Pay attention to 'incorrect' or 'except' in the question stem.
