Odd One Out — Definition

Definition

Odd-one-out reasoning asks which item fails a stated or clearly defensible common rule followed by the remaining items. The rule may concern meaning, number properties, letter structure or a relationship between parts.

A successful answer identifies both the excluded item and the property grouping the others. Short lists can support more than one classification, so a question should provide enough context to select the intended rule.

In practice, prefer a simple consistent property over an elaborate exception built around one item, and recognise genuine ambiguity rather than treating any possible difference as proof.
