Figure Analogies — Definition

Definition
Figure analogies ask the learner to transfer a transformation from one pair of diagrams to another. Relevant features include shape, position, orientation, shading and the number of elements. The correct result preserves the relationship demonstrated or specified in the first pair, rather than merely resembling its final diagram.
Rotations, reflections and movements between cells must be distinguished, especially when symmetric shapes conceal their differences. A useful method records each changed and unchanged feature, applies the complete rule to the new figure and checks whether the available information establishes that rule uniquely.
