Mental Ability — Mains Strategy

Mains Strategy

This section is for written reasoning practice; CSAT has no descriptive Mains component. Begin by identifying the problem's target and the representation chosen to solve it. A reader should be able to see why a table, diagram, equation or logical statement is appropriate for the relationships supplied.

In the body, translate the conditions faithfully and show the decisive steps. Separate calculations from assumptions, and distinguish a conclusion that follows necessarily from one that merely fits a possible example. If a result is underdetermined, demonstrate the uncertainty with two assignments satisfying the same premises. If a rule is proposed for a sequence, explain the stated class of pattern and its fit to the observations.

Conclude with the answer in the requested form and a brief verification. A useful solution also identifies the nearest plausible error, such as reversing a reference direction or dividing by the final rather than initial value. This turns a solved exercise into a transferable method without claiming that one strategy applies unchanged to every type of mental-ability question.
