Prelims Strategy

Classify the intervention by mechanism before judging its label. Does it reduce emissions, strengthen removals or reduce vulnerability to impacts? An action can have several benefits, but the stated mechanism determines whether the particular claim is mitigation or adaptation.

For numerical or statement questions, write the indicator's denominator and boundary. Falling intensity does not guarantee falling total emissions. Non-fossil capacity share does not equal generation share. A net-zero claim does not necessarily imply zero gross emissions. Check the baseline when an option refers to avoided emissions and the storage conditions when it refers to removals.

Review policy statements by separating target, activity and outcome. Installed equipment may support a future result without proving the result's full magnitude. Use short original examples to test these distinctions and calculate totals when activity changes. Avoid memorising an isolated warming-potential figure without a gas and time horizon; conceptual accuracy is usually more useful than an unsupported numerical comparison.
