Prelims Strategy

Keep event, date and significance together. September 1893 refers to the Parliament of Religions addresses, while 1 May 1897 marks the founding of the Ramakrishna Mission. A distractor may pair a correct date with the wrong event, so recognition of both numbers is insufficient.

For conceptual questions, distinguish service that supports agency from paternalism that decides everything for the recipient. Confidence is compatible with seeking expertise and correcting an error; it does not mean certainty that an initial view is right. A religious or philosophical inspiration also does not replace the public official's duty to serve impartially.

Treat quotation attribution as a factual claim requiring a reliable text. Do not choose an option because a familiar sentence sounds like something a thinker might have said. In application questions, separate the sourced idea from the original administrative inference and ask whether the inference respects evidence and authority. These MCQs are revision exercises for GS IV, not attributed PYQs or a separate Ethics Preliminary syllabus.
