Whistleblowing Cases — UPSC Importance
UPSC Importance Analysis
Whistleblowing cases are useful for GS IV because they combine individual responsibility with institutional design. They require a choice among plausible duties: confidentiality, loyalty, public safety, fairness and accountability. The strongest answer does more than praise courage; it explains how an accurate concern reaches a competent authority without unnecessarily exposing people or prejudging the allegation.
The PIDPI framework supplies a dated administrative anchor. Its confidentiality conditions make the distinction between a protected identified complaint and an anonymous or widely circulated allegation particularly important. The separate 2014 statute should not be invoked as though its title alone establishes the applicable procedure.
Prepare cases with uncertainty and competing risks, such as a possible safety-record manipulation before a deadline. These encourage a defensible sequence of evidence preservation, reporting, protection and review. Objective practice on this Mains-oriented topic develops reasoning and procedural distinctions. It does not claim that fictional cases are reported judgments, that publicity is the sole measure of courage or that an unsupported PYQ count establishes importance.
