Prelims Strategy

For Prelims, the strategy for Economic Geography should focus on factual accuracy combined with conceptual clarity. Aspirants must thoroughly understand the definitions and classifications of economic activities (primary, secondary, tertiary, quaternary, quinary) with clear examples.

Memorize the core tenets and key assumptions of major location theories like Von Thünen's, Weber's, and Christaller's, and be able to identify their spatial patterns. A strong emphasis should be placed on Indian economic geography: know the major industrial regions, their dominant industries, and the factors driving their location.

Similarly, be familiar with India's agricultural zones, key crops, and mineral resource distribution. Map-based questions are common, so practice identifying locations of industries, mines, and agricultural belts.

Pay attention to current affairs related to economic development, infrastructure projects (Bharatmala, Sagarmala), new industrial policies (PLI schemes), and agricultural reforms, as these often form the basis of factual questions.

Vyyuha recommends creating flashcards for key terms, theories, and Indian geographical facts, and regularly attempting MCQs that test both direct knowledge and application of concepts.
