Trade and Commerce — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
For Prelims, a strong emphasis should be placed on factual recall and geographical mapping. Begin by thoroughly understanding the definitions of trade and commerce, and the distinctions between internal and external trade.
Memorize the names and locations of India's major ports, airports (for cargo), and key commercial hubs, along with their primary specializations. Familiarize yourself with important historical and modern trade routes, including major highways, dedicated freight corridors, and international initiatives like IMEC.
Pay close attention to government policies: know the objectives and key features of the Foreign Trade Policy, SEZ Act, Make in India, and PLI schemes. Understand the basic principles of international trade organizations like WTO and India's stance on various trade agreements (FTAs, RCEP).
Practice identifying these locations and routes on a map. Focus on understanding the 'basics_summary' and 'key_concepts' thoroughly. Regularly revise statistics related to India's top import/export commodities and major trading partners.
Solve previous year questions to identify recurring themes and question patterns, particularly those related to 'major trading centers in India geography' and 'trade routes ancient and modern India'.
