Pakistan — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
For Prelims preparation on Pakistan, focus on memorizing specific facts: K2 location (Karakoram range), major rivers under Indus Water Treaty (eastern: Sutlej, Beas, Ravi to India; western: Indus, Jhelum, Chenab to Pakistan), provincial capitals (Punjab-Lahore, Sindh-Karachi, Balochistan-Quetta, KPK-Peshawar), major ports (Karachi, Gwadar), and border lengths.
Create mental maps showing CPEC route, disputed territories (PoK, Gilgit-Baltistan), and major geographical features. Practice elimination techniques: when confused between mountain ranges, remember K2 is in Karakoram, not Hindu Kush or Himalayas.
For water treaty questions, recall the 1960 date and World Bank mediation. Common traps include confusing Gwadar's location (Balochistan, not Sindh), mixing up Durand Line (Pakistan-Afghanistan) with other borders, and incorrectly attributing rivers to treaty allocations.
Use acronyms: 'JIC' for western rivers (Jhelum, Indus, Chenab to Pakistan), 'SBR' for eastern rivers (Sutlej, Beas, Ravi to India). Stay updated on current developments through monthly current affairs, particularly CPEC progress, water disputes, and diplomatic initiatives.
