- SDG India Index 2023–24: composite score 71.
- Score ≠ percentage of targets achieved.
- Localisation needs responsibilities, resources and local evidence.
- Aggregate progress can conceal exclusion.
2-Minute Revision
Separate the global agenda, national monitoring and local implementation. Goals, targets and indicators are different levels. Use a concrete policy chain to explain synergy or trade-offs. Examine the underlying indicators and their definitions before interpreting a composite change, and disaggregate results to identify who remains underserved.
5-Minute Revision
A hypothetical district raises its composite development score while its most remote settlements still lack reliable water. Explain why the two observations can coexist. Identify the disaggregated indicators, service-quality evidence and institutional responsibilities needed to design a response. Then state why the composite improvement alone cannot prove that a particular programme caused the change.
