Dandi March and Salt Satyagraha — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
Memorise the sequence rather than one isolated date: departure from Sabarmati on 12 March 1930, movement to Dandi and salt-law violation on 6 April. If a statement concerns arrival, distinguish it from the act that inaugurated the public breach of the law. Do not move the march into the 1920–1922 Non-Cooperation sequence.
Identify the method precisely. Civil disobedience involves deliberate law-breaking; boycott is withdrawal from a good, institution or relationship. Salt could also be discussed within economic nationalism, but the defining act at Dandi was a challenge to the salt law. A statement about symbolic consumption alone misses that mechanism.
Check the scale of an outcome claim. The original march, the wider Civil Disobedience Movement and later negotiations are connected but distinct. Participation beyond Dandi does not mean every action was identical, and the act of breaking a law does not prove its immediate repeal. Keep the opening event, subsequent mobilisation and eventual political results in separate revision columns.
