Congress Socialist Party — Prelims Strategy

Prelims Strategy

Start with organisation and chronology. CSP formation belongs to 1934 and the Patna socialist initiative. At that stage it worked within Congress; the decision to leave belongs to 1948. A statement that accurately describes one phase may be wrong when attached to the other. Quit India participation belongs between them in 1942.

Match formal roles carefully. Narendra Deva and Jayaprakash Narayan were central founding figures. Nehru's socialist advocacy does not make him a CSP member or founding president. Likewise, a leader's importance in communist, labour or peasant history does not establish an office in this organisation. Test the role as well as the name.

Read programme statements as proposals for transformation. Nationalisation and agrarian restructuring describe objectives, not completed colonial policy or an automatically unanimous Congress position. Keep the CSP distinct from the 1920 Tashkent organisation and the 1925 Kanpur communist conference. Shared vocabulary such as socialism cannot substitute for checking the institution, date and political relationship stated in an option.
