Tactical evolution in the context of India's internal security refers to the continuous and dynamic adaptation of operational methods, strategies, and resource deployment by security forces in response to changing threat landscapes, technological advancements, and socio-political dynamics.
It is not a static concept but a living process, driven by lessons learned from past engagements, emerging challenges like cyber warfare or drone threats, and the imperative to minimize collateral damage while maximizing operational effectiveness.
Historically, Indian security forces, including the Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) like CRPF, BSF, ITBP, and state police forces, have faced a diverse array of internal security challenges ranging from conventional insurgencies in the Northeast and Jammu & Kashmir to Left Wing Extremism (LWE) in the Red Corridor, and sophisticated urban terrorism.
Each of these threats presents unique characteristics, demanding tailored tactical responses. For instance, counter-insurgency operations in dense jungles or mountainous terrains require different tactics than anti-terrorism operations in a bustling metropolis.
