Prelims Strategy

For NEET Prelims, mastering SI units requires a two-pronged approach: conceptual clarity and practical application. Firstly, thoroughly memorize the seven SI base units and the quantities they measure.

Understand the difference between base and derived units. Secondly, practice expressing common derived units (like Newton, Joule, Watt, Pascal, Hertz, Volt, Ohm) in terms of their base unit components.

This skill is vital for dimensional analysis questions. Thirdly, become proficient with SI prefixes (kilo, milli, micro, nano, pico, mega, giga) and their corresponding powers of ten. Rapid and accurate conversion between prefixed units is essential for numerical problems.

When solving numerical problems, always convert all given quantities into their respective SI base units *before* substituting them into formulas. This eliminates a major source of error. For conceptual questions, carefully read the options, as distractors often involve confusing similar-sounding units (e.

g., Lux vs. Lumen vs. Candela) or misidentifying base vs. derived units. Practice questions involving unit conversions, especially those requiring cubing or squaring conversion factors (like cm3^3 to m3^3).
