Mains Strategy

Build an explanation around a defined system and a measurable comparison. If discussing energy use in a technology, state whether the figures concern useful mechanical output, electrical input or energy stored. Separate total consumption from the rate at which energy is transferred. This avoids presenting a power rating as evidence of a particular bill or efficiency.

Use a short worked example with explicit assumptions. Two hoists delivering 600 joules in three and six seconds have different average useful powers but equal useful energy. Explain that their input-energy ranking requires efficiency or input measurements. A second example can show how drag or friction reduces mechanical energy while the broader energy account includes internal heating.

Conclude with the information needed for a fair assessment: consistent boundaries, operating duration, load and relevant losses. Avoid claiming that an ideal formula captures every practical condition. A strong response uses the formula to clarify a mechanism, identifies the assumption under which it applies and explains why a tempting alternative interpretation does not follow from the supplied data.
