Prelims Strategy

For Prelims, a strong factual foundation is paramount. Focus on key definitions (malware types, phishing, ransomware, APTs), the mandates and functions of Indian cybersecurity institutions (CERT-In, NCIIPC, MeitY), and the core provisions of the IT Act 2000 (especially sections related to cybercrimes and regulatory bodies) and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

Pay close attention to the year of establishment for institutions and key amendments. Understand the basic concepts of cryptography (symmetric vs. asymmetric, hashing) and network security protocols (TLS, SSH).

Current affairs are extremely important: track major cyber incidents (e.g., AIIMS attack), new government initiatives (e.g., Cyber Surakshit Bharat), and international agreements involving India (e.g., ICET dialogues).

Memorize the five functions of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. Practice MCQs that test conceptual clarity and factual recall, particularly those with subtle traps related to legal provisions or institutional mandates.

Create flashcards for key terms, acronyms, and their full forms.
