Prelims Strategy

Begin by classifying the object: active payload, defunct object, rocket body, fragment or natural micrometeoroid. Do not equate the total catalogue with debris or assume that detection also establishes origin. For impact-energy comparisons with the same mass, square the relative-speed ratio; doubling speed gives four times the kinetic energy, not twice.

Keep operational terms separate. An alert calls for assessment; an avoidance manoeuvre is an action. Passivation manages stored energy, disposal addresses the end-of-mission orbital outcome, and active removal concerns intervention on an existing object. A higher disposal orbit does not imply rapid decay through stronger atmospheric drag.

For dated statements, identify the event actually described. ISSAR-2025 was released on 8 April 2026, not on its 16 April webpage date or in the year named in the title. India's 2030 commitment remains a target, and ESA's projections remain scenarios. Reject conclusions that turn a reporting period into a release date or a planned capability into an already achieved result.
