MNRE reports awarded capacity under green-hydrogen programmes
2026-03-24The parliamentary update reported awards covering 3,000 MW per annum of electrolyser manufacturing capacity to 15 companies and 862,000 tonnes per annum of green-hydrogen production capacity. These are awarded capacities, not evidence that the facilities were commissioned or that the stated annual output had already been produced.
UPSC Angle: Distinguish manufacturing capacity, hydrogen production capacity and actual output; explain how procurement support can build supply while commissioning, renewable-power availability, water use and lifecycle emissions still require assessment.
Green Hydrogen Certification Portal launched
2026-06-17MNRE launched the portal to support certification and regulatory compliance. The 2026 portal is distinct from the certification scheme introduced in 2025. Certification infrastructure provides a way to document compliance; its launch does not itself demonstrate an achieved quantity of emissions reductions.
UPSC Angle: Connect clean-energy labels to measurement boundaries, verification and traceability. Compare a certification mechanism with physical deployment, and use the defined emissions threshold without calling hydrogen automatically zero-emission.
