Green Buildings — Revision Notes
⚡ 30-Second Revision
Demand, service, supply, life cycle. Energy intensity = annual energy / stated area. Carbon payback = added emissions / annual avoided emissions. Annual net energy is not hourly independence or zero embodied carbon. Code, rating and measured performance differ.
2-Minute Revision
Green buildings address resources and occupant services across a defined life cycle. Operational use differs from embodied impacts, and energy differs from emissions. Passive design must suit climate; daylight can interact with heat and glare.
One hundred thousand annual kWh over one thousand m² gives one hundred kWh/m². Twenty added emission units offset by five annually gives a simple four-year payback. BEE's 2024 references do not eliminate the need to identify applicable implementation, verify operation and assess water, waste and indoor conditions.
5-Minute Revision
Calculate energy intensity before and after annual use falls from 100,000 to 80,000 kWh over an unchanged 1,000 m². State the reduction and the comparability assumptions. Next calculate the simple payback of twenty added emission units with five avoided annually. Explain why annual net energy permits some grid imports. Finish by naming the extra evidence needed for claims about embodied emissions, water use and a particular project's legal obligations.

Boundary before badge: define the service, period and resource before interpreting a rating or net-zero claim.
