Energy Efficiency — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
For Prelims, a strong factual foundation is non-negotiable. Focus on the institutional framework: the establishment, mandate, and key functions of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). Memorize the core components of the National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency (NMEEE) – PAT, MTEE, EEFP, FEEED – and understand their individual objectives.
Pay close attention to the Energy Conservation Act, 2001, and its significant amendments, especially the 2022 Act, which introduced carbon trading and expanded ECBC. Understand the BEE Star Rating system: what it signifies, which appliances it covers, and its dynamic nature (periodic updates).
Be clear on the difference between energy efficiency and energy conservation. Practice MCQs on acronyms, specific targets, and the beneficiaries of various schemes (e.g., 'Designated Consumers' for PAT).
Current affairs related to new BEE initiatives, updated NDCs, or international collaborations on energy efficiency are also high-probability areas. Create flashcards for key facts and regularly revise them.
