SHGs emerge as COVID-19 warriors in rural India
March 2020During the COVID-19 pandemic, NRLM's Self Help Groups demonstrated remarkable resilience and adaptability. Over 6 million SHGs across the country mobilized to produce masks, sanitizers, and essential commodities. They facilitated doorstep delivery of rations, medicines, and government services. SHGs also played crucial roles in contact tracing, awareness campaigns, and supporting migrant workers. This crisis response highlighted the institutional strength built through NRLM and the social capital created by community organizations. The pandemic experience has led to recognition of SHGs as critical infrastructure for rural resilience and emergency response.

Digital transformation of rural livelihoods through technology integration
January 2024NRLM has embraced digital technologies for enhancing service delivery and market access. The launch of digital platforms for SHG management, online training modules, and e-commerce integration represents a significant evolution. The Common Service Centers (CSCs) model has been integrated with SHG networks to provide digital services in rural areas. Mobile applications for financial transactions, skill certification, and market linkages have improved efficiency and transparency. This digital transformation addresses the challenge of reaching remote areas and provides scalable solutions for capacity building and service delivery.
