To tackle NEET questions on physical properties of transition elements effectively, a multi-pronged strategy is crucial. Firstly, thoroughly understand the electronic configurations of transition metals and their ions, as this is the foundation for explaining most properties.

Pay special attention to exceptions like Cr and Cu. Secondly, memorize the general trends for properties like atomic radii, melting points, and densities across a period and down a group. Crucially, understand *why* these trends exist (e.

g., effective nuclear charge, shielding effect, metallic bonding strength). Thirdly, dedicate significant effort to understanding anomalies, particularly the low melting points of Zn, Cd, Hg (due to d10d^{10} configuration) and the lanthanoid contraction (poor 4f shielding).

For magnetic properties, practice calculating the spin-only magnetic moment using μ=n(n+2)\mu = \sqrt{n(n+2)} BM. Be quick and accurate in determining 'n' (number of unpaired electrons). For numerical problems, ensure correct substitution and calculation. For conceptual questions, carefully read all options and eliminate distractors by applying the underlying principles. Often, trap options will present a property correctly but attribute it to the wrong reason.
