Food Chains and Food Webs — Mains Strategy

Mains Strategy

Use a food-web explanation to show a mechanism, rather than decorating the answer with species names. A usable introduction is: “Feeding networks connect conservation outcomes through direct and indirect effects.” Draw only the links needed to explain the pressure in the question.

In the body, trace the immediate response and one secondary consequence. Then identify a condition that may change the outcome, such as alternative prey, resource limitation or water quality. Distinguish a plausible mechanism from a measured result. If a hypothetical scenario is used, label it clearly and avoid presenting numerical population changes as documented facts.

Connect the analysis to management by explaining why habitat, prey resources and physical conditions may need attention together. A usable conclusion is: “Protecting the network requires maintaining the relationships that support populations, alongside the populations themselves.” Keep the answer focused on the named disturbance; a general list of biodiversity benefits should not displace the causal explanation that the question requires.
