Reward and Punishment System — Prelims Strategy
Prelims Strategy
Treat the objective questions as conceptual checks for GS IV preparation. Begin by asking whether the behaviour increases or decreases and whether a consequence is added or removed. Negative reinforcement strengthens behaviour through removal or avoidance of an aversive condition. It should not be selected as a synonym for punishment merely because the word negative appears.
Read the observed result separately from the manager's intention. An award called a reinforcer has not demonstrated that function if the specified response does not increase. Do not infer punishment from the absence of an increase unless the scenario supplies the relevant relationship. Labels require evidence about behaviour.
In administrative scenarios, identify the performance measure and the public purpose it is meant to represent. Raw file counts can be informative yet unfair across substantially different workloads. Relevant adjustments should be explainable and verifiable.
For discipline, distinguish evidence of intent, system contribution and consequences rather than assuming that identical numerical errors require identical treatment. Also check whether incentives penalise the reporting that makes reliable oversight possible.
