| Energy Amendment 2022 | 2022 | The Energy Conservation (Amendment) Act, 2022 broadened the building-code framework to include energy conservation and sustainable building codes. Its revised definition covers energy efficiency, renewable energy and other green-building requirements. The building definition includes specified commercial, office and residential uses, construction after the relevant notified rules, and a minimum connected load of 100 kW or contract demand of 120 kVA, with State power to lower those thresholds. Section 9 also adds implementation through State building bye-laws. | The load threshold measures capacity, not annual consumption: a building using 100,000 kWh in a year has not thereby demonstrated a 100 kW connected load. Applicability requires checking the rules, construction timing, use and any lower State threshold. In an illustrative assessment, separate legal code coverage from voluntary certification and from measured operating performance. The amendment creates the expanded framework; it does not mean that installing rooftop panels alone makes a building compliant or that every dwelling is automatically covered. |
