Definition
Graphene is a single atomic layer of carbon in a honeycomb arrangement. It differs from graphite's stacked layers and diamond's three-dimensional bonding network. Its electronic and mechanical properties make it important in materials research, but actual performance depends on structure, defects, supporting materials and device design.
Ideal monolayer graphene's high carrier mobility does not by itself solve the on–off requirements of conventional digital switching. The 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics recognised Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov's experimental work on graphene.
A fundamental material property, a laboratory component result and a finished product claim require distinct evidence.
