The Internet of Things connects physical devices that sense conditions, exchange data or act on their environment through networks. A useful IoT system links sensors, communication, processing and sometimes actuators, so information can support a decision or a physical response.
Connectivity alone does not establish accuracy, security or public value. A smart meter may transmit readings, but those readings still need correct calibration, reliable delivery and appropriate interpretation.
IoT governance therefore includes device maintenance, access control and the consequences of failure throughout the system's operating life.
