To effectively tackle NEET questions on actinoids, a focused strategy is essential.
- Master Comparisons: — The most common question type involves comparing actinoids with lanthanoids. Create a detailed comparison table covering electronic configuration, oxidation states, magnetic properties, radioactivity, complex formation, and contraction. Understand why these differences exist (e.g., 5f vs. 4f orbital energies and shielding).
- Electronic Configurations: — While memorizing all configurations isn't practical, understand the general trend () and key exceptions like Thorium () and Curium (). Practice deriving ionic configurations by removing electrons from 7s, then 6d, then 5f.
