Sufi literature refers to the vast body of written and oral works produced by or inspired by Sufi mystics, primarily in the Indian subcontinent, from roughly the 8th to the 18th centuries. At its heart, Sufism is the mystical branch of Islam, emphasizing an inner, spiritual path to God, characterized by intense devotion, asceticism, and direct experience of the Divine.

Sufi literature, therefore, is the artistic and intellectual expression of this spiritual journey. It encompasses a wide array of genres, including poetry (ghazals, masnavis, kafis, qawwalis), prose (malfuzat or conversations of saints, maktubat or letters, tazkiras or biographical accounts), and philosophical treatises.
