Trace the system from physical input to decision and action. A sensor measures; an actuator changes a physical condition. A gateway may connect devices to another network, while edge processing performs computation nearer the data source. An option can describe a genuine component but assign it the wrong role. Determine whether the stem asks about measurement, communication, processing or control.

For data-quality scenarios, separate precision, calibration and timeliness. Repeatedly transmitting a biased reading does not remove the underlying bias. A dashboard can correctly display inaccurate measurements.
