For NEET Prelims, mastering Dalton's Atomic Theory requires a clear understanding of its five main postulates and their implications. Focus on memorizing each postulate accurately. Crucially, understand how each postulate explains the Laws of Chemical Combination (Conservation of Mass, Definite Proportions, Multiple Proportions).
This is a very common question type. For example, know that the conservation of atoms explains the Law of Conservation of Mass, and fixed simple whole-number ratios explain the Law of Definite Proportions.
Equally important is knowing the limitations of the theory. Be able to identify which specific discoveries (e.g., subatomic particles, isotopes, isobars) disproved or refined which specific postulate.
For instance, the discovery of isotopes disproved the idea that all atoms of an element are identical in mass. Practice MCQs that ask you to identify the correct postulate, the law explained by a postulate, or the limitation of a postulate.
Pay attention to trap options that might confuse 'indivisibility' with 'identical mass' or misattribute a modern concept to Dalton's original theory. For numerical problems related to the Laws of Definite or Multiple Proportions, ensure you can set up ratios correctly and perform simple calculations.
